Due to the commitment of CryoSolutions AG, we were able to implement a customised solution for our slides that allows 432 boxes to be stored safely at -80 °C on less than one square metre of floor space. Special shelves were necessary to support our high loading density of 100 slides per box.
In addition, the overall solution convinces with minimal power consumption, low waste heat and sustainability thanks to waste-free production and the use of exclusively natural refrigerants in the smallest quantities.
Isothermal liquid nitrogen freezer
Our isothermal liquid nitrogen freezers stand out for the low amount of maintenance and time they demand. Even more important, though, is a freezer that is extremely safe in a laboratory environment when removing or storing biomaterial.
As this freezer employs N2 in its gas phase for dry storage, removing the vessels is as easy as it gets and far less dangerous than liquid storage, a benefit that a large number of users recognize. To sum it up, our everyday work in the lab has become easier and safer thanks to CBS dry storage.
Culture Collection of Switzerland (CCOS)
Culture Collection of Switzerland (CCOS) offers its customers the means to store biomaterial at –196° C as a backup solution. The cryogenic storage tanks that are used must meet our quality criteria in terms of robustness, user-friendliness and safety. To further minimize the risk of cross-contamination in our samples, only one system came into question, as it enables biomaterial to be stored in liquid nitrogen in the gas phase. These reasons are what led us to choose the CBS isothermal freezers, which have been in use with us since 2009 without any problems.
Sperm Cell Freezing Backup
For our sperm cell freezing backup, we switched from storing vials in LN2 to straw storage. The sizeable capacity offered by the innovative CBS Isothermal Straw Storage System has meant that we have also been able to save on our financial resources. Being able to process samples in the LN2 tank at temperatures of –190° C has given us greater cell viability. Ever since then, this dry storage system has allowed us to capitalize on the greater sample efficiency and operator safety.

Since we moved to this new dry-storage carousel system from CBS, cataloging and retrieval of our frozen samples has been greatly facilitated and there is no risk of exposure to boiling liquid nitrogen and this is an important safety parameter.
